MYRIAM

I am a ceramic artist based in Vancouver, B.C. I grew up in the Kootenays, where I first started digging clay out of the lake, but it wasn’t until I attended Emily Carr University of Art and Design—where I received my BFA in Visual Arts—that I truly fell in love with making things out of clay.

Since then, I’ve spent much of my time teaching and creating with people of all ages, an experience that has reinforced the importance of play and intuition in my creative process.

Currently, my focus is on functional pieces—objects designed for interaction and integration into our spaces and daily routines. I often use these works to reflect the textures and materiality of my environment, introducing natural elements and details into indoor spaces. Touch has always been a grounding force for me, and the tactile nature of clay continues to fuel my passion for the process of making. It also serves as a defining component in the design decisions behind my work.

Ultimately, I strive to make pieces that want to be held—work that shares my love and knowledge of clay through both form and feel.

As an instructor, I prioritize fostering a supportive, encouraging environment while helping students build the foundational skills needed to become confident potters. I’ve been teaching pottery classes since 2011, and I still look forward to them each week. I’m often asked if I ever get tired of covering the same material, and the answer is a resounding no! Each student brings a unique perspective and experience to the studio, and I love the challenge of sharing what I’ve learned in a way that resonates personally with them.

I’m continuously grateful for the connections and growth this art form provides me.
